BODMAS is actually an acronym that lets you know in which order/hierarchy mathematical problems have to be solved. In other words the rule or order that we use to simplify in math is
called "BODMAS" rule.
B -> Brackets
first (Parentheses)
O -> Of (orders:
Powers and radicals)
D -> Division
M -> Multiplication
A -> Addition
Few
things to remember:
1.If
you have both multiplication and division or addition and subtraction in a
particular simplification, you have to do one by one in the order from
left to right.
2.
Division mostly comes after multiplication. As said above, you have to do one
by one in the order from left to right.
Let us see few
examples so as to have a better understanding
Example 1 : 6 + 7 x 8
= 6 + 7 x 8
= 6 + 56
= 62

Example 2 : 10² -
16 ÷ 8
= 10² - 16 ÷ 8
= 100
- 16 ÷ 8
= 100 - 2
= 98 |

Example 3 : (25 + 11) x 2
= (25 + 11) x 2
= 36 x 2
= 72

Example 4 : 3 + 6 x (5 + 4) ÷ 3 -7
= 3 + 6 x (5+4) ÷ 3 -7
= 3 + 6
x 9 ÷ 3 -7
= 3 + 54
÷ 3 -7
= 3 + 18 -7
= 21 - 7
= 14
